About the job

 

The data scientist will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating key components of our client-facing applications, search & retrieval solutions, decision support systems and analytics platforms.

 

You get the opportunity to:

– contribute to complex back-end processing and high-performance architectures, search and retrieval architectures, similarity matching

– work with a wide variety of data: structured, text, graph, image

You work from our offices in Mechelen.

 

Preferred qualifications and skills

 

– Degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, statistics, computational linguistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics)

– Relevant work experience in data science, algorithm development, information retrieval, natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, decision support, knowledge-based system solutions

– Ideally, experience in developing software in a commercial environment with a multi-disciplinary team

– Experience with statistical software (e.g. R)

– Programming skills in a compiled programming language (e.g. Java, Python)

– Knowledge of good design, code and development practices

– Experience with database technologies: relational (e.g. SQLServer, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB)

– Understanding of code version control tools (e.g. Bitbucket) and best practices

– Demonstrated skills in selecting the right tools given a business problem

– Can design and work towards a structured solution for a business problem

– Affinity for natural language

– Not afraid to roll up your sleeves: e.g. you start from raw (and not always labeled) data, you dive into an existing code base

– Ability to work in a fast-paced environment: you get things done effectively

– Can work independently and in a team, have a positive attitude, be proactive

– Effective written and verbal communication skills, you are fluent in English
