Playboy Files Trademark Application for Retro-Style Bunny Logo

  • Trademark Clearance

Last week, Playboy Enterprises International, Inc. filed a trademark application for a retro version of its bunny logo — featuring a rabbit sporting a tuxedo. The move comes just one month after Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s death at age 91.

As reported by TMZ, the “new” logo was filed in international class 16 for paper goods, printed matter, magazines, and trading cards, among other types of merchandise.

Pictured below are the two bunny logos: the iconic Playboy bunny wearing a bowtie appears on the left, while the retro version is on the right:

Art Paul, the founding Art Director of Playboy magazine, designed the original Playboy bunny logo in 1953.

A Playboy spokesperson told TMZ that the company has no plans to change its iconic bunny logo, pointing out that this “new” bunny has been used in the past and the company is simply re-establishing ownership of it.
